Friend Of DOTC Wins World Kubb Championship. What in the Hell is a Kubb?!!!

Viking Chess!
Okay...so...this isn't pole dancing, but what is except...well, pole dancing...

Josh Feathers, in the green shirt,  is a great friend of the MPSA and DOTC - and a "Knockerhead" - odd, that was my nickname back in college.

Anywho...I don't know what a Kubb is, but judging from this pic, beer may be involved, so how bad can it be?

Out of 84 teams, the Knockerheads prevailed, bringing home a national championship - not to shabby.

Congrats!

Put down the lager, and step up to double-Jacks!

What is Kubb?

Kubb is an easy-to-learn, yet strategy-rich, lawn game that has been played in Scandinavian countries for over 1,000 years. It is said to be invented by the Vikings, and has been nicknamed "Viking Chess."

While Iowa is fairly new to the game of kubb, the city is getting a very strong following. The club will be hosting a charity tournament on September 24, 201l, with 32 teams from across the country invited to participate.

Team Knockerheads won last year’s fall tournament and will be defending their title. All proceeds of the tournament will go to Animal Lifeline of Iowa, a no-kill, special needs animal shelter in Des Moines. The Des Moines fall tournament will be held at Tower Park in Des Moines. More information is available at www.desmoineskubb.com.

Des Moines Kubb hosts free "Learn and Play" events locally, with its next event being held on July 27, 2011 at Cup O’ Kryptonite, 4521 Fleur Drive as part of their annual “Christmas in July” event, a donation drive for Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
