Merry Christmas - When did 'they' ban The Little Drummer Boy? Detroit, 1991

From Wiki -

The Little Drummer Boy is a stop motion television special produced by Rankin/Bass Productions, based on the song of the same name. It was first televised in Canada on December 15, 1968 on the CTV Television Network, followed four days later by its American nationwide release on NBC. A sequel was broadcast in 1976.

DETROIT -- Protests that the animated Christmas movie 'The Little Drummer Boy' portrays a racist image of Arabs has prompted a Detroit television station to drop plans to rebroadcast it.

WJBK-TV, which had aired the film last Saturday, responded to complaints from Arab-Americans by withdrawing the program from its scheduled showing on Dec. 22.

In Defense of “The Little Drummer Boy”, December 23, 1991

"...then I mentioned “The Little Drummer Boy.” I had to, if I wanted to be honest. Again, we’re supposed to hate the song. People think it’s too cute, overly sentimental, that it’s, as one person described it to me, “like the Hallmark Channel set to music.” And “Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum” is annoying to a lot of people.

Plus, Angela Martin from The Office claims it as her favorite song, and insisted on singing it, with all the dour rigidity she could muster, at the office karaoke party. So it’s not exactly cool..."

The 'woke/cancel culture' feels new, doesn't it?  From the NFL end-zone messaging, and the dissolution of Aunt Jemimah, to removing the Indian from, but keeping the land, a box of butter, we feel better about ourselves - we are awakened to the offensiveness of being offended - even when we're neither a native American, a plump pancake maker, nor a black, multi-million dollar athlete.

How dare THEY offend YOU.

It's nothing new, just ask the Little Drummer Boy.

Regardless, and I mean no offense, Merry Christmas and enjoy this rendition of the beloved song, The Little Drummer Boy.
